New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday landed in Brasília for his state visit to Brazil after attending the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro. PM Modi was received by Brazilian defence minister José Múcio Monteiro Filho at the airport. The PM arrived to a traditional Brazilian Samba Reggae performance after a productive BRICS summit on July 6-7.
PM Modi is visiting Brazil at the invitation of Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: "Taking forward the strong India–Brazil partnership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Brasília on his state visit." He added that the welcome was made delightfully musical by the traditional Brazilian Samba Reggae performance.
The PM was also greeted by members of the Indian diaspora upon his arrival at a hotel in Brasilia. "Landed in Brasilia a short while ago. The Indian community accorded a memorable welcome, once again highlighting how passionate our diaspora is and how connected they remain with their roots," PM Modi wrote in a post on X. PM Modi was also accorded a cultural performance upon arrival at the hotel. He appreciated the artists and interacted with them after their performances.
According to MEA, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with president Lula, focusing on expanding strategic cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people ties.
Reflecting on the Rio de Janeiro leg of his Brazil visit, PM Modi described it as productive. He noted that he and other world leaders engaged in wide-ranging discussions at the BRICS summit. PM Modi also said that his bilateral meetings with global leaders will help strengthen India's friendships with various nations. He shared a video on X showing moments from the BRICS summit and his meetings with international leaders.
"The Rio leg of my Brazil visit was very productive. We had extensive deliberations at the BRICS Summit. I compliment President Lula and the Brazilian Government for the work they’ve done through their BRICS Presidency in making this platform even more effective. My bilateral meetings with world leaders will also boost India's friendship with various nations," read PM Modi's post.
Earlier, PM Modi joined other BRICS leaders, partner countries, and outreach invitees in the traditional photo session at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. On Monday, during a session on Environment, COP-30, and Global Health, PM Modi said that under India's upcoming BRICS presidency, the grouping will be given a new definition. He affirmed that India will prioritise people-centric progress during its BRICS presidency next year.
The PM, who is on a five-nation tour, have already visited Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and now Brazil will next visit Namibia. He is scheduled to address the Namibian parliament.
