Agreement has been reached regarding border management: PM Modi at meeting with Xi

PM Narendra Modi met Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Sunday. The meeting gains significance as it comes on the backdrop of US President Donald Trump announcing tariffs on several countries of the world, including India. The relations between India and US are not at its best currently. PM Narendra Modi has in fact said that India and China must work together to help bring stability to the world economic order.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. The PM landed in China on Saturday. This is the first meeting of the 2 leaders in the last 7 years. The 2 leaders are meeting for the first time after the Galwan clashes of 2020.

Following the meeting, PM Modi announced that an agreement had been reached between the Special Representatives of India and China, regarding border management.

PM Narendra Modi landed in China on Saturday for the SCO Summit. The meeting between the heads of the 2 countries comes at a time when India is battling US tariffs which has impacted almost all leading economies across the world.  The two leaders are expected to discuss India-China economic ties and also try to find ways to normalise the strained relations between them. 

The India-China relations remain strained ever since the clashes in eastern Ladakh (Galwan) area. Before leaving for the Summit, PM Modi said that it was important that India and China work together to help bring stability to the world economic order. 

Atmosphere of peace and stability has been created: PM Modi

Speaking at the bilateral Summit with Xi, PM Narendra Modi said, "Last year in Kazan, we had very fruitful discussions which gave a positive direction to our relations. After the disengagement on the border, an atmosphere of peace and stability has been created." 

The PM thanked the Chinese leader for the invitation to attend the SCO Summit. Talking about the agreements between the two sides , the PM said, "An agreement has been reached between our Special Representatives regarding border management. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has been resumed. Direct flights between the two countries are also being resumed. The interests of 2.8 billion people of both countries are linked to our cooperation. This will also pave the way for the welfare of the entire humanity. We are committed to taking our relations forward on the basis of mutual trust, respect and sensitivity."
