London: Britain's Prince Andrew has been stripped of his royal titles and honours over his alleged ties with late sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein, in one of the harshest moves against a royal family member in modern British history. Andrew is the younger brother of King Charles and second son of the late Queen Elizabeth.

Andrew, 65, has also been forced to leave his Windosr home, Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Thursday. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

According to the statement, a formal notice has now been served to Andrew to surrender the lease of his Royal Lodge mansion on the Windsor Estate, west of London. He will move to alternative private accommodation on the Sandringham estate in eastern England.

"These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse," the palace statement reads.

Andrew recently said that he would give up his royal titles amid mounting pressure over his ties with Epstein. Earlie this month, he was stopped using his title of Duke of York.

Earlier this week, King Charles was heckled by a protester over his brother's ties to Epstein while greeting royal fans during a cathedral visit in Britain. “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?,” a man was heard shouting as the monarch went on a walkabout outside Lichfield Cathedral in northwest England.
