US-based Indian woman slams workplace for excluding vegetarian food at lunch event

Washington DC: An Indian woman based in the US slammed her workplace for not providing vegetarian options at a lunch event. She said that the incident left her disappointed. The post triggered an array of comments, and many vegetarians stated similar incidents.
Runjhun Misra, who goes by the Instagram name 'The Wicked Vegetarian', was thrilled to attend a lunch event at work. She claimed she was happy when she was told not to carry lunch that day, as food would be arranged for everyone. However, to her shock, the event offered no vegetarian options, forcing her to leave the event without eating.
Woman left 'hangry' after work event had no vegetarian options for her
Misra in her video detailed the incident and stated that vegetarians were many at times ignored in events, even if it was supposedly "inclusive".
"Raise your hand if you’ve ever gone hungry at a work event,” said Misra at the beginning of the video. She then went on to narrate the details of the incident. Misra stated that the lunch event had more than 60 varieties of sandwiches, including kosher, halal, and gluten-freee options. But when she approached the catering staff asking for something vegetarian, she was met with silence.
She realised that they had not even considered the dietary preference. To make matters worse, someone told her that she could make a vegetarian sandwich on her own. "What they meant is what they always mean: you can take a meat sandwich and carefully peel back all the layers of meat that have been juiced into that sandwich and make it vegetarian," clarified the woman on Instagram.
"That doesn’t make me want to eat a vegetarian sandwich. It makes me want to vomit,” she said.
Consequently, the woman left the event hangry and ordered herself some lunch. She also informed netizens that someone from her office offered to get her something vegetarian about an hour later.
Misra's video garnered the attention of many people, especially vegetarians who had gone through similar issues. "Oh for me it’s always at conferences when they order a few vegetarian sandwiches that are spread out with the rest but the meat eaters would take them so the few vegetarians were left with nothing," wrote one.
Another commented, "Exactly! Story of my life…it’s always just salad for us vegetarians."
