Washington DC: An American YouTuber claimed that he fell ill during his vacation in India despite staying at only 5-star hotels. The young content creator shared his experience in response to a post by influencer Twinkle Stanly, who accused "white people" of budget travelling to unsanitary parts of India and then calling the country "pathetic".
In her video, Stanly stated that foreigners promoted a negative image of India after deciding to live in conditions "worse than the way underprivileged people in India live” during their trip. Countering her statements on X, YouTuber Tyler Oliveira said that luxury travel in India was also challenging in terms of hygiene and safety. "Only ate in 5-star hotels and still contracted 4 types of Salmonella," said the man on X. He added that it was likely caused by the hotel's egg sourcing place, a chicken farm located next to a "mountain" of trash.

The YouTuber went on to defend himself by stating that it was not racial discrimination to talk about a reality that even the upper-class Indians are not fully aware of. "It is NOT racist to address the poor quality of life most Indians are subjected to while the upper caste insulates themselves from reality," wrote the YouTuber on X. In order to back his claim, the young YouTuber even shared his medical reports online.
Oliveira's comments did not sit well with many desis. They lashed out at him for the comments, claiming that he was "defaming" the country. One wrote, "India has a per capita income a little under 3000 USD. USA is around 30 x times. You’re not exactly being insightful by travelling to a place 30 x poorer and discovering that the standards are poorer. What did you expect?" Another commented, "Stop dwelling on the negatives and embrace India's beauty. Its vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and warm people are truly magical. If you're just hiding in 5-star hotels, why bother travelling there? Every country has issues; India is no exception."
