New Delhi: Discrimination is not confined to any particular ethnicity. A recent video circulating online shows a visibly intoxicated man attacking a brown man at a McDonald’s outlet in Canada, in what appeared to be an unprovoked incident.
The viral clip shows a Caucasian man, wearing a Toronto Blue Jays jacket, approaching the brown man near the “Mobile Order Pick Up” counter and suddenly attacking him. The footage shows the intoxicated individual first pushing the victim, causing his phone to fall to the ground. When the Indian man calmly bent down to retrieve his phone, the attacker rushed toward him, grabbed him by the collar, and shoved him back.
The aggressor could be heard accusing the victim of “acting superior,” while the Indian man tried to defend himself without retaliation. The confrontation continued until another person, possibly a McDonald’s staff member, intervened and asked them to take the matter outside. Despite being escorted out, the assailant kept accusing the victim of arrogance.
The authenticity of the video has not yet been verified, and the police have not released any official statement regarding the incident. The identities of both men remain unconfirmed, but the altercation reportedly took place on November 1.
This disturbing episode comes just days after another violent attack on a Canadian-Indian man, 55-year-old businessman Arvi Singh Sagoo, in Edmonton, Canada. On October 19, Sagoo confronted a stranger who was urinating on his vehicle. The man responded by punching Sagoo in the head, causing him to fall unconscious. Sagoo succumbed to his injuries five days later, on October 24.
These back-to-back incidents have sparked conversations about public safety and the treatment of minorities in Canada, though authorities have not yet confirmed whether racial bias played a role in either case.
