‘Why are Americans paying for AI in India?’: Trumps aide Peter Navarro targets India again

This wasn't the first time that Navorro made comments targeting India. Earlier, he had made remarks targeting India's trade and policies related to manufacturing. He had also portrayed India as a tough negotiator.

Navarro's statement has come at a time when the US has imposed additional 25 percent tariffs on India.

Washington: In a fresh remark, White House trade advisor Peter Navarro has asked why Americans pay for Artificial Intelligence (AI) services in India, even as platforms like ChatGPT are operated from US soil using its own electricity and serving people in India and other parts of the world.

During his interaction with former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon on 'Real America Voice', Navarro spoke on the use of American resources being used to support AI services across the globe.

What Navarro say during the interview?

"Why are Americans paying for AI in India? ChatGPT operates on US soil and uses American electricity, servicing large users of ChatGPT in India and China and elsewhere around the world," he was quoted to have said, a statement which has now gone viral.

Raising concerns over farmland purchases, he pointed out that foreigners and foreign companies were buying agricultural land at ten times the actual price, and warned that the same would lead to worsening of food inflation in the US.

Comments amid the US’s imposition of extra tariffs on India

His statement has come at a time when the US has imposed additional 25 percent tariffs on India, accusing New Delhi of buying crude oil from Russia, which is also helping Russia in its war against Ukraine. India has rejected the claims and asserted that it was its right to decide from where to buy oil.

Navarro targeted India earlier too

Notably, this wasn’t the first time that Navorro made comments targeting India. Earlier, he had made remarks targeting India’s trade and policies related to manufacturing. He had also portrayed India as a tough negotiator. He had also called India’s purchase of Russian oil as ‘Blood Money’ and also called the Russia-Ukraine war ‘Modi’s war’. He had also referred to India's leadership using a "Brahmin" analogy, which drew criticism from India.
