Bajaj have discontinued the Mavrick 440, giving the Harley-Davidson X440, also made by Hero, a breathing space. For Bajaj it also lets them focus on growing the Harley-Davidson brand in India.

New Delhi: It has only been a year and a half since Hero Mavrick 440 was launched, and the brand has decided it call it a day on their most premium motorcycle to date. Hero had launched the Mavrick 440 in early 2024 as a roadster version of the Harley-Davidson X440, also made by Hero in India. The Mavrick differed with its design and the smaller 17-inch wheels. The Mavrick was their first attempt at entering the market of a huge modern classic segment.

The Mavrick saw competition from the likes of Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda CB350, Jawa 350s and the Triumph Speed 400. It was always going to be challenging for Bajaj to stand in front of this big lineup of established players. The price tag, along with the ride and peppy engine, were the Mavrick’s plus points.

Despite everything, sales of the Mavrick 440 soared behind the Harley-Davidson X440, which is sold through the same Hero Premia dealer network. In the first nine months of FY2025, Harley sold 8,974 units while the Mavrick 440s could manage to only sell 3214 units.

In January 2025, the sales had gone down to being just 50 units and were more or less in single digits or even nought since April 2025. It is due to these appalling numbers that Hero have discontinued the Mavrick 440 despite it being listed on the brand’s website still.

The decision also gives Harley X440 a space to make its mark and allows the company to focus on growing the Harley brand. It will now have a better space in the showroom floor. It has already been a couple of years since the Harley-Davidson X440 was launched, and there is a chance that a second bike in this platform could arrive in the later part of the year.
