New Delhi: Bugatti have closed the penultimate chapter in the W16 world as they wrap up production of Bolide. The brand’s final track toy is officially at the end of the line, and with the 40th and final car built and handed over to its owner, picked from the factory in the northeast of France.

In the final pricing, it would be around € 4 million, and for a car that doesn’t go on the road, reminiscent of the Type 35, which was a very successful racing car. Being such a rare and fantastic specimen of automotive engineering, it is really a shame that it can only be used on track, but it is truly in its element only around the racetrack.

Final W16 is yet to be made

Still, the brand is delivering the Mistral to the customers, and hence the final chapter of the W16 is yet to be written, though it is close. The W16 had been introduced with the Veyron 20 years ago, and now the final model is a roadster that will be limited to just 99 units. The deliveries of the fastest roofless car started in February, and after the production wraps up, the W16 will be behind the curtains.

Bugatti has a replacement with the all-new V16 for the Tourbillon that replaces the Chiron, and the deliveries for this are to start next year. The quad turbochargers are not part of this, with the Cosworth-made engine going for a naturally aspirated configuration. It is also an 8.4-litre instead of an 8.0-litre engine and comes as a heart for the hybrid system, as Bugatti adheres to the strict regulations.

While the V16 is being introduced, the highly-regarded W16 could be making headlines down the line. The new Programme Solitaire is there for existing powertrains and chassis and will be responsible for one-off commissions like Brouillard. Bugatti follows a trend of Pagani by bringing new life to older cars, coming with upgraded software and styling as well.
