New Delhi: Chevrolet’s designers are always trying to make concept cars that are as outrageous as they come with the Corvette brand. The American brand has been in news for their news for breaking and reclaiming their records at the Nurburgring with the Corvette ZR1X.

However, they have unveiled the CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo at the Quail, a Motorsports Gathering. Corvette have said that it isn’t meant for production, though, but it is going to be the muse for the Corvette design for the future. These two are the last of many concepts to be revealed this year as part of the GM Design exercise.

For this, GM designer Warren, Michigan, collaborated with automaker’s Motorsports Aero Group in Charlotte, North Carolina, in order to make the CX Concept’s ultra-streamlined bodywork. Thanks to the dozen functional vents and air outlets, the Corvette is quite aerodynamic. GM have even given it a Vacuum Fan System with built-in fans to assist it in pulling more air in the open-channel bodywork.

It comes with the usual Corvette elements that make it stand out. It gets the forward-lunging nose, the pronounced horizontal "chine” line delineating the upper and lower body work and even the dual-element taillights that take cues from previous Corvette models. It has a roofline that is below 41 inches in height.

Corvette CX Powertrain

It is powered by four electric motors, one in each wheel, and the 90 kWh battery managed to deliver a hair-triggering 2000 bhp. Instead of the usual doors, it comes with a forward-tilting, fighter-style canopy. On the inside, it has Inferno Red with leather, milled aluminium and carbon fibre accents. There is a yoke-style steering wheel with a small central display that makes it appear futuristic.

The CX Concept doesn’t even have that, and the windshield itself is a huge heads-up display with all controls integrated in the steering wheel. Chevy doesn’t stop there because they have a track-focused version called the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo. It is designed specifically for Gran Turismo 7.

Corvette CX.R

The CX.R ramps up the standard CX, coming with much more aggressive active aerodynamics, a lower riding height, a big rear wing and massive splitters. It also gets Corvette Racing’s signature black-and-yellow livery.

Unlike the standard CX, the CX.R comes with three electric motors and a battery pack, which is then combined with a dual-overhead-cam, twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre V8 that makes 900 bhp and revs up to 15,000 rpm. It comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, and the total output is 2,000 bhp.
