How to get a PUC certificate in Mizoram online and offline?

A PUC certificate validates that a vehicle can legally function on the road. Here are the to obtain such a certificate in Mizoram.

In Mizoram, the Pollution Under Control (PUC) is necessary in order to operate any vehicle on road as is the rule across the country with emission standards set by the government. A PUC certificate shows that a vehicle is within the limits of the exhaust emissions allowed which in turn helps balance the air quality. There are test centres in Mizoram that test the emissions from vehicles in the state.

With the amount of online presence, vehicle owners can check the status of the PUC certificate even online. In general the validity of the PUC certificates are of six months. Started in 1989, it was the governments intiative to crackdown on the poor air quality. Since then many such initiatives have been started in India which ensure that vehicular emissions are on the decline.

  • Go to the Parivahan PUC Portal
  • Here find the Other Products and Services and then the "PUC Certificate” tab
  • Check the status of the running PUC certificate by entering the registration number, vehicle chassis number and the captcha code given.
  • After that the vehicle owner can find the authorised testing centre that is near their area if renewal of the certificate is required. 

Offline module for obtaining PUC certificate in Mizoram

  • Through a Parivahan PUC website or service station, the vehicle owner needs to find the the authorised PUC centre.
  • Along with the necessary documents such the Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC), Insurance papers and Driver’s license and the car the owner needs to arrive at the PUC centre.
  • If the vehicle meets the emission standards then a PUC certificate will be issued with a testing fee required at the end of the test.

In Mizoram, car owners must go to a nearby authorised emission centre where the test can be conducted in order to receive a PUC certificate. An officer tests the vehicle by installing an exhaust pipe in the exhaust system while the vehicle is being started. There are a few tests that are crucial for the vehicles in order to comply with the Mizoram rules. 

These tests include Carbon Monoxide test, which aids in evaluating the quality of fuel combustion, engine efficiency, and air intake efficiency. The Hydrocarbon test determines whether the engine is burning fuel correctly by measuring the amount of unburned fuel in exhaust fumes. Carbon Dioxide test gauges a car's carbon dioxide emissions, giving information about how the car affects the environment.

Smoke Density test helps understand how thick or opaque the black smoke coming from a car's exhaust is and assesses the fuel's combustion. The idling CO test evaluates carbon monoxide emissions during idle engine operation. Test for CNG/LPG Soundness test looks for damage or leaks in CNG or LPG systems that can cause emissions to rise.

Penalty is levied on failure to reissue of the PUC and operation of the vehicle in Mizoram with penalty fees got first time Rs 1000 though the penalties may be higher if it was a repeat offence.
