Hyundai to unveil Ioniq 2 EV at Munich motor show

Hyundai are close to unveiling the Ioniq 2 EV at the Munich motor show next month, and in the brand's international portfolio, it will sit between the Inster and Kona Electric, though its arrival in India hasn't been confirmed.

New Delhi: Hyundai are preparing to unveil their newest EV at the upcoming Munich motor show in September. It is most likely to be badged as Hyundai Ioniq 2, with the small EV rival the Renault 4, along with the soon-to-be-coming Kia EV2 and Skoda Epiq in the international markets. The Ioniq 2 is also expected to be a Hyundai Bayon-sized model.

The new Hyundai EV has been spotted being tested abroad, and they confirm that the Ioniq 2 is the same size as the India-bound Bayon. It further showed that the hatchback is a little raised and comes with a raked roofline. Further, the front is likely to take design elements from the Hyundai Ioniq 6, with slim LED headlights to the aggressive, protruding nose and the front bumper.

On the inside, the Ioniq 2 is going to be heavy on tech with what Hyundai calls "step change” in terms of usability for their models compared to the present Ioniq portfolio. The new EV is going to come with an instrument and infotainment display setup that stretches to half of the dashboard.

Like the EV2, the Ioniq 2 comes with Ioniq 2 with the scalable E-GMP platform, used by most Hyundai Genesis and Kia EVs. The small Hyundai EV is going to be powered with the same battery and motor as the larger Kia EV3, which has options of 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh with WLTP range of 430 km and 600 km respectively. Both batteries make 204 bhp, 283 Nm front-axle-mounted motor.

The Ioniq 2 will be placed between the Inster and Kona Electric in Hyundai’s international line-up. While prices for the international market are expected to be announced during Q3 of 2026, however, launch in India isn’t confirmed yet. Both Inster EV and Bayon, though, are coming to India and likely to be launched next year.
