Mahindra updates Thar 3-Door, with tech and more, launched at Rs 9.99 lakh

New Delhi: Mahindra have given their rugged SUV, Thar, the biggest upgrade so far, since the arrival of their current generation, introduced half a decade ago. It is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2025 Thar facelift features significant changes on the inside and outside, while retaining its off-roading capability. It borrows design and comfort elements from Mahindra’s big boy, the Roxor SUV.

It has been built for comfort, with the SUV now featuring rear AC vents, a modern infotainment system, and an internal fuel lid release, which has become a standard feature in modern cars. The Thar facelift comes in multiple trims spread across both petrol and diesel powertrains with both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) layouts.

The pricing ranges from just Rs 10 lakh to nearly Rs 17 lakh, and it is now suitable for both lifestyle SUV buyers who will use it for family outings as well as those who enjoy hardcore off-roading activities.

On the outside, it comes with a new body-coloured grille and dual-tone bumper, a rear-view camera mounted on the spare wheel, and windscreen wipers. It even has internal fuel-lid operation and comes with Tango Red and Battleship Grey, joining four more palettes.

On the inside, there are also several changes, with the dashboard design and some other elements from the Thar incorporated to give it a more glamorous look. It comes with a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It gets a wireless charging pad and 65W USB Type-C port, door-mounted power windows, an armrest with storage, cupholders, rear SC vents and a Type-C charging port, along with grab handles that have been made easier.

The Mahindra Thar 3-door is available with three engine options: a 1.5-litre mHawk diesel that produces 117 bhp and 300 Nm, a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel that generates 130 bhp and 300 Nm, and a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that produces 150 bhp and 300 Nm in manual transmission and 320 Nm with automatic transmission.

As an off-roader, it still has a 41.8-degree approach angle, a 27-degree ramp-over, a 36-degree departure angle and 650 mm water wading depth, making the Thar one of the best factory-built SUVs right now.
