New Delhi: China’s electric carmaker BYD posted their first year-on-year decline in deliveries in 2025, despite the it approaching the peak. It is just another that the market leader might be slowing down. In September, BYD delivered 393,060 units in September, making for a six per cent decline year over year.

It comes after the first had slashed their sales target for this year by almost 16 per cent to 4.6 million deliveries, amidst fierce price competition in the domestic market. However, BYD continued to dominate the market share, making up for more than 54 per cent of the total EV sales in September.

On the other hand, though, EV upstarts across the line have managed to make new monthly cars, with many capitalising on their cheaper new launches. Apart from the promotions, the Chinese government have also worked in favour of “sequential improvement” in terms of sales, which usually sees a big boost during the final months of the year, as noted by auto analyst from Nomura Joey Ying.

Leapmotor’s C10 and C16 models topped sales in their own size categories for the fourth and eighth months consecutively, respectively. Stellantis-backed Leapmotor delivered 66,657 units in September, with an increase of 97 per cent year on year. This breaks their previous record of 50,000 mark had reached in July.

Xiaomi went past 40,000 units in September, even though the EV makers haven’t given a specific number for this. The EV’s next big thing, the YU7, Xiaomi’s second production model and competition of Tesla Model Y, in total delivered 40,000 units in the past three months since being launched in July.
