New Delhi: Mahindra has quietly set the stage for its next big SUV update, and the timing feels deliberate. Just weeks before the calendar flips to 2026, the company has opened pre-bookings for the XUV 7XO, a model that sits right at the centre of its petrol and diesel SUV lineup. The full reveal is locked in for 5 January 2026, and the early move on bookings suggests Mahindra expects strong interest.

Remember the original XUV700 launch rush?, with waiting periods stretching into months. That memory came back while reading today’s update. The XUV 7XO is not an all-new vehicle, but it carries enough changes to matter for buyers who want something familiar, yet fresher.

XUV 7XO Pre-bookings open ahead of January unveil

Mahindra has confirmed that pre-bookings for the XUV 7XO open on 15 December 2025 at 12 PM. Buyers can reserve the SUV by paying ₹21,000, either online or at authorised dealerships. The company has not shared pricing yet, but more details are expected closer to the launch in early January.

The XUV 7XO is essentially a refreshed version of the XUV700, with feature additions inspired by Mahindra’s newer electric models. For many buyers, this makes it a bridge between what they already know and where Mahindra’s design language is heading.

What the latest XUV 7XO teaser shows

The latest teaser reveals several visual updates that enthusiasts will spot quickly. Mahindra has added:

  • Dual-pod projector headlamps with dynamic turn indicators
  • Revised LED DRLs and updated LED tail lamps
  • New dual-tone alloy wheels
  • Blacked-out ORVMs
  • A new dark red or maroon exterior shade

There are signs of possible dual-tone paint options as well, judging by the contrasting elements in the teaser images. The overall look stays muscular, but it feels sharper and more modern than the outgoing version.

XUV 7XO Safety and tech expectations

On the safety front, the XUV 7XO is expected to raise the bar slightly. Reports point to an upgraded Level 2 ADAS package, along with seven airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold.

From an ownership point of view, these features matter more than flashy screens. Many buyers in this segment now look for safety tech as a baseline, not a bonus.

XUV 7XO Engine options remain familiar

Under the bonnet, Mahindra is expected to stick with proven engines from the XUV700. The lineup is likely to include:

  • 2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 200 PS and 380 Nm
  • 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine delivering up to 185 PS and 450 Nm

Both engines should come with six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. The diesel variant is also expected to offer an all-wheel drive option, something enthusiasts still value for long highway drives and rough roads.

XUV 7XO expected price and rivals

Mahindra is expected to price the XUV 7XO between ₹15 lakh and ₹25 lakh ex-showroom. Once launched, it will take on established names like the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Jeep Meridian, and Hyundai Alcazar.

For buyers, this space is crowded but competitive. The XUV 7XO will need to balance features, price, and availability to stand out.
