New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki is preparing a big finish to 2025. The company will finally launch its first electric SUV, the e Vitara, on 2 December, 2025. This is a moment Indian auto fans have been waiting for since the model was shown for global markets.

The electric SUV is already rolling off the factory floor in Gujarat. Maruti has even shipped 6,000 units to Europe and the UK. So India is not the first to get it, but yes, we finally join the list next month.

Maruti’s big EV entry

The e-Vitara is the first of the four battery powered cars Maruti Suzuki plans before 2030. The model signals that India’s largest carmaker has no plans to sit out of the EV shift. Even Nexa showrooms are being readied with charging setups and service support.

Here is what stands out for now:

  • Two battery packs: 48.8kWh and 61.1kWh
  • Single motor with front wheel drive
  • Claimed driving range up to 500km
  • 0 to 80 percent charging in 50 minutes using DC fast charger

The EV uses the new Heartect e platform. It is built for electric cars from the base. The claimed range puts it in the same discussion with Tata Curvv.ev, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, and the upcoming VinFast VF6.

Design and features for daily users

Maruti says it is going for something called Crafted Futurism theme with sharp surfaces and upright stance. There are 18 inch alloy wheels and LED projector lights. Inside, a dual screen setup brings a 10.1 inch infotainment system and 10.25 inch digital cluster.

Other features listed:

  • Ventilated front seats
  • 10 way electric driver’s seat
  • Drive modes including Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow
  • Adjustable regenerative braking
  • Ambient lighting
  • Electric sunroof

Safety comes with seven airbags, all disc brakes, a battery protection frame, ADAS Level 2, 360 degree camera, TPMS, and an electronic parking brake.

India launch price and competition watch

Expected price is around Rs 18 lakh (ex showroom). That puts the car in the mid size EV band. This range is a battleground right now with new SUVs coming every few months. So e Vitara has to work extra hard to convince first time EV buyers.

Exports have already begun to over 10 European countries including France, Germany, UK, Norway and more. Eventually, Maruti plans to ship to over 100 global markets including Japan.

A new chapter for Maruti begins

The structure uses more than 50 percent advanced high tensile steel. Thermal systems inside are designed for Indian climates from minus 30°C to 60°C. With 1,500 EV ready service centres planned across 1,000 cities, Maruti wants fast adoption.
