New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki have shipped around 2,900 units of their first Battery Electric Vehicle, the e-Vitara, to 12 European countries after Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week flagged off the start of the production of the e-Vitara in Gujarat. The e-Vitara is set to be sold in 100 countries, including in India.

The e-Vitara is going to be produced in the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, and coming in as a global product, it is going to be one of the best examples of make in India for out of India. Coming as the first EV from the brand, the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara will be competing against the likes of Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and MG ZS. It comes with 18-inch aero-optimised alloys.

In the international market, the e-Vitara comes with two battery options, a 61.1 kWh unit and a 49 kWh unit. The larger pack makes 171 bhp and 193 Nm of torque, giving 426 km of WLTP-tested range. There’s also a Four Wheel Drive of the same battery pack that produces 181 bhp and 307 Nm of torque and a range of 395 km. The smaller pack makes 142 bhp and 193 Nm of torque.

The 61 kWh needs 9 hours with a 7 kW AC charger and 5.5 hours for the 11 kW charger, while the smaller one in the same set-up takes 6.5 hours and 4.5 hours. Both can be charged with a DC charger and can go to an 80 per cent charge in 45 minutes. Maruti Suzuki have also promised to set up fast chargers at their dealerships in the top 100 cities. The brand is yet to reveal the official range for the vehicle.

Inside, it will get a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Safety features include Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS), seven airbags and a 360-degree camera.
