New Delhi: Mercedes have given a little glimpse of the new high-performance concept based on the second-generation AMG GT. The teaser image suggests a track-based evolution of the coupe, taking elements that make it suitable for both track and normal city driving options as well.

Having promised before, the Mercedes comes with more V8 cars, and the GT Track Sport has the eight cylinders under its hood. Currently a concept, the production version is likely to appear soon with AMG saying that it is "a preview” of the expansion of the GT series as well, noting that the GT portfolio is yet to be completed.

While the concept does have "track” in its name, there is always a hope for a road-legal version of this vehicle. The Mercedes-AMG’s forthcoming next-gen GT3 race car has to be a street-legal production model in order to comply with regulations, requiring a special homologation to close the gap between road and track.

Even the design of the concept is aerodynamic for track, with lon, long bonnet, muscular arches and the lot. The swan-neck rear wing for active aero elements, which will give it some amazing downforce as well. There is a high front splitter and additional venting upfront that gives grip and cooling during hard use.

However, the tyres give clues that it could make it road-legal as well. It all shows the previous AMG efforts like the GT R and GT Black Series, which were both amazing on track while remaining operational on the road.

Mercedes AMG GT Track Sport to set lap times at the Nurburgring?

Mercedes-AMG have said that the concept will have their familiar V8 engine. Though the specification and powertrain is yet to be revealed, the brand does note that it is made for "driving dynamics” of the ultimate order, and the brand expects it to have quite a few records to its name and set new performance levels. Which does mean that the brand will be making a run for the Nurburgring lap time record.

Many are now anticipating that the car will be unveiled in the Munich Auto Show in September 2025. If it goes to production, it will be a direct competition with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which is quite a competent track machine that takes on the challenge of running in daily use.
