New Delhi: Volvo Cars India have teased their soon-to-be-arriving EX30 SUV on the social media platform, Instagram. Volvo EX30 is going to be placed under the EX40, which was earlier called the C40 Recharge, and will serve in the premium compact SUV buyers. The EX30 has been in the international market for some time, and in India, the brand will bring in Completely-Knocked-Down units.

In India, the EX30 will see competition from BMW iX1 LWB, Mercedes-Benz EQA, BYD Sealion 7, Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. For Volvo, the EX30 is an important product as it manages to mix compact dimensions along with premium features, strong performance and even sustainable design. For the brand, it will mark a new market share and potential new buyers while cementing a place in the fast-growing premium EV SUV portfolio.

The EX30 on the inside is quite minimalistic. The dashboard is button-free, with the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen taking up most of the dashboard and controlling all functions, from climate control to navigation and multimedia. The system is developed in collaboration with Google and integrates Google Maps, YouTube and Spotify, and additional apps can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

The SUV does away with the traditional driver display and instead gets a central screen. Further, the steering comes with a flat top and bottom design, putting emphasis on futuristic appeal.

It measures 4.23 m in length and is 20 cm shorter than the XC40 Recharge. Despite the size, the SUV’s cabin size is good due to its wheelbase. The design language has Volvo imprinted over it, coming with a clean closed grille with the logo, their signature Thor’s hammer LED headlights and tail lamps that extend up to the C-pillar, giving it a very distinctive stance.

Volvo EX30 powertrain

The EX30 is available in three configurations worldwide. The Single Motor Standard version uses a 51 kWh LFP battery to make 272 bhp and a claimed 344 km. The Single Motor Extended Range has the same output but with a larger 69 kWh battery, which allows it to make 480 km. The third variant is the Twin Motor Performance variant that makes 428 bhp from the dual motors, coming with a range of 460 km and a 0-100 kph acceleration of 3.4 seconds.

Charging is also quite impressive, with the 134 kW to 153 kW DC fast charging capability enabling the battery to go from 10 to 80 per cent in just 25 minutes. For now, though, the car maker might just offer it in Single Motor Extended Range. As a brand, Volvo is quite trusted, and entering a new segment, this will work in their advantage, potentially making them a serious competitor to their rivals.
