On World EV Day, here's a look at the top five best EVs that have been launched this year in India, with the country's EV market slowly growing.
New Delhi: 2025 has seen an amazing upward curve in terms of electrical vehicles coming to the market. The EV sales in 2024 though might have only comprised somewhere between 7-8 per cent. However, it is a steady market that everyone is slowly trying to take a piece of.
In 2025 almost every major brand in the country has an EV in the portfolio or in the pipeline for a launch quite soon. The biggest entrant is of course, Maruti Suzuki, the country’s biggest carmaker. Apart from this the year has seen entry from Tesla as well, which does show the extent of the country’s EV market’s potential.
Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara
Maruti’s entry into the EV market was long-awaited and had given a preview of their project during the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. In August, it was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is set to be exported to 100 countries from India. With the first units dispatched for export, the e-Vitara is expected to arrive on Indian roads later this year.
Tata Harrier.ev
Tata has been making strong strides in the EV market with the Curvv.ev, Tiago.ev, Nexon.ev and now that portfolio includes the Harrier.ev as well. It is one of its kind, coming as an entry-level off-roading premium SUV. It is a tough, sporty SUV that has the all-terrain approach written on it. It is a segment fairly unoccupied and Harrier.ev has every part to make it a success story.
Tesla Model Y
One of the world’s largest-selling EV SUVs has made its way to Indian shores after years of anticipation. The Model Y’s biggest achievement has to be that it has launched Tesla in India, and the brand plans to expand pan-India with its services. In India the Model Y comes with Rear-wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range RWD.
Hyundai Creta EV
Hyundai started the year with the launch of the country’s most popular SUV. Replacing the Kona EV, which left a big gap in the EV portfolio for the company, the Creta comes with two battery packs, a 51.4 kWh battery that gets a range of 473 km and a 42 kWh pack that has a range of 390 km.
Kia Carens Clavis EV
Kia had teased the Carens Clavis for a long while before launch, and then the next obvious step from the company was to have the EV variant of the compact crossover. It is a seven-seater EV and comes with fast charging capabilities, and it has two battery packs, a 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery pack, and offers ADAS Level 2.
