Google CEO Sundar Pichai believes that artificial intelligence is advancing so fast that one day AI can take over the CEO's chair. He said the CEO's job would be one of the “probably easiest” roles for AI. However, he also warned that AI still makes mistakes, so being completely dependent is dangerous. Pichai clearly stated that AI will kill some jobs, change some and people will have to adapt themselves to the new era.
In a media interview, Sundar Pichai said that AI will be able to perform “complex” tasks easily in the coming time and will act as an agent in the user's place. He said that one day AI can also play the role of CEO, which, according to him, can prove to be “one of the easiest tasks”. Although he did not specify which CEO tasks AI would be able to do better, he believed that AI would eliminate many jobs and replace many. According to Pichai, people have to be prepared for this transition.
Pichai also said that it is still time for the full potential of AI to unleash and many areas still need much improvement. He said that AI models still make mistakes and it is not right to trust them completely. Giving examples, Pichai said that AI can guide big decisions like investing in a stock or medical treatment, but caution is essential while making the final decision. He also said that like the internet, there is a period of over-investment in AI, but in the end its impact will be just as big.
Sundar Pichai says that the impact of AI is not going to stop anyone and that “no company is untouched by this, not even Google”. He said that in some places in the industry the level of investment is increasing more than necessary, but the long future of technology is strong. Pichai emphasized that Google is ready to withstand the ups and downs of AI due to its “full stack technology”. At the same time, he reiterated that reliable tools like Google search will continue to be necessary to avoid mistakes made by the AI model.
