New Delhi: SBI Card, one of the country's largest credit card issuers, has announced changes in the fee structure for its customers. According to the notification issued on the company's website, new charges will be applicable on certain transactions from 1 November 2025. These include education payments and wallet load transactions made from third-party apps.
If a customer pays the fees of a school, college or any other educational institution through third-party apps or payment aggregators (like Paytm, PhonePe, Razorpay, etc.), then 1 percent transaction charges will be levied on him. For example, if a student pays a fee of Rs 10,000 through the app, then he will have to pay an extra Rs 100. However, if the payment is made from the institution's website or the POS machine located on its campus, there will be no additional charges.
From November 1, SBI Card users will have to pay an additional fee of 1 percent for wallet load transactions of more than Rs 1,000. For example, if a customer deposits Rs 2,000 into his digital wallet (like Paytm Wallet or Amazon Pay), then he will have to pay an extra Rs 20.

The new rules of SBI Card will affect customers who depend on third-party apps or wallet loading. Its objective is possibly to balance the cost of these transactions and to promote direct payment channels (such as the institute's website or official platform). However, consumers now need to check before every online transaction through which medium they are making payments, so that additional charges can be avoided.
