Bengaluru: Businessman CJ Roys death during IT raids - Here is all you need to know about the case

Several questions are being raised after the death of CJ Roy, the Bengaluru businessman whose offices were raided by the Income Tax Department. The people are questioning the circumstances under which the businessman died. They also want to know what all did the officials recover during the raids at the premises of Roy.

New Delhi: Bengaluru-based businessman, CJ Ro died by suicide during an Income Tax raid.  Following his death, several questions remain unanswered. People have raised doubts about the circumstances leading to his death. There are also questions regarding the investigation process and the raids. 

What transpired during the IT raids?

There are several unanswered questions regarding this case. People are questioning as to how the entire case is being handled. They want to know whether all incidents surrounding the incident are being investigated thoroughly.

According to a Times of India report, people are also questioning why a SIT was formed to investigate this case. They want to know its scope, independence and what direction the probe is going to take. There is also uncertainty regarding the circumstances inside the office of the businessman during the raids, and what exactly triggered him to kill himself.

The IT department has also not clarified whether they removed any digital documents, files or hard disks during the raid. Observers are keen to know what all was removed from the office by the IT sleuths and whether they found any incriminating evidence against the businessman.

Key moments during the IT raids, as to when it began, how long it continued and which areas of the office were checked first is also not known yet. The focus has clearly shifted from the raids to the death of the businessman.

Death of CJ Roy

Businessman CJ Roy who was the head of the Confident Group, shot himself dead at his Bengaluru office. Reports said that he had spoken to his mother just moments before killing himself. 

His family claimed that Roy was under tremendous pressure, following Income Tax raids at his 2 offices, one in Cochin and the other in Bengaluru. In fact he killed himself during an IT raid at his premises. He was about to be questioned by IT officials, when he requested that he wanted to talk to his mother. He went to his cabin and locked it from inside. 

When he did not come out for some time, TA Joseph, Confident group MD went to check on him. He found the cabin locked and had to break open the door to get access. Inside he found Roy sitting in his chair with blood on his shirt. 

Joseph raised an alarm and the companies staff, called an ambulance. The paramedics found no pulse on Roy and he was immediately rushed to Narayana Hrudayalaya. However, by the time they reached the hospital, Roy was already dead.
