Bengaluru: Fake tech firm busted as cyber police uncover scam targeting Americans

As the investigation widened, police took 21 employees into custody for questioning, while several others are still on the run. Officers also seized computer systems, digital devices and mobile phones from the premises. The Whitefield Sen police station has registered a case under the Information Technology Act, and inquiries are continuing.

New Delhi: A fake software company posing as a Microsoft technical support centre has been exposed in Bengaluru, with Cybercrime police raiding the office on Varthur Road near Whitefield. The firm, operating since August under the name Musk Communications, allegedly targeted and defrauded American citizens by offering bogus tech-support services. Acting on a tip-off, a special team led by Cyber Command Unit DGP Pranab Mohanty conducted two days of raids.

Police detained 21 employees for questioning, while a few others remain absconding. Officials seized multiple computer systems, digital devices and mobile phones. A case has been registered at the Whitefield Sen police station under provisions of the Information Technology Act, and further investigation is underway.

Attempted robbery foiled

In a separate incident, an attempted robbery was reported outside Yeshwantpur railway station. Naveen and his friends, who had travelled from Chikkamagaluru to attend the agricultural fair at GKVK, were confronted by three armed men who threatened them with a sword and demanded money.

The suspects were captured on a mobile video while issuing threats. When they realised they were being recorded, they tried to snatch the phone. The trio fled after the victim shouted “Police! Police!” A case has been filed at the RMC Yard police station and efforts are on to trace the accused.
