During investigations, the police found that Sudha and Madamma used to run a small biryani eatery. However they were in debt and also did not earn much from their food business. So they shut shop and started selling milk and chips. However, this also failed to pull them out of poverty. So they started working as domestic help in several houses.

However despite their best efforts, the debt amount kept increasing. Ultimately they took this drastic step, and killed the boy and also themselves, said the police.

Woman was separated from husband

The woman, Sudha, had separated from her husband just a few years back. She, along with her son had moved to her mother Madamma's house.

Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast division), Sarah Fatima, was quoted by news agencies as saying, "The boy was studying in Class 7 at Christ School. We are conducting further investigation to determine the exact cause of the deaths. The bodies have currently been sent for post-mortem examination."
