Cyclone Ditwah impact: Bengaluru weather gives Shimla feels, city likely to receive rains this week

Bengaluru is witnessing unusually low temperatures for this time of the year. The maximum temperature in the city on Tuesday is predicted to be 25 degrees Celsius, while the minimum would hover around 18 degrees Celsius. Light to moderate rains are predicted for the city. The unusually low temperatures in the city are due to Cyclone Ditwah, said the IMD.

New Delhi: Bengaluru is witnessing unusually low temperatures for this time of the year. The city is also likely to receive light rains in the first week of December, predicted the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The rains in the city are a result of Cyclone Ditwah which has hit the Tamil Nadu coast, said the weather department.

Light to moderate rains predicted for Bengaluru

The IMD said in a bulletin that Bengaluru is likely to see cloudy skies till Tuesday and light to moderate rains are also predicted for the city. Some areas of the city are also likely to witness early morning mist. While the maximum temperatures are likely to be around 25 degrees Celsius, the minimum will hover around 18 degrees Celsius, in the city, said the weather department.

Bengaluru will witness light spells of rain throughout the day on Tuesday. The humidity levels are likely to be around 94% and the air quality index would be in the moderate category.

The weather department said that over the coming days, the temperatures are likely to remain similar. The maximum temperature is likely to rise by 1 degrees Celsius to 22 degrees. The minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius recorded in the city, is 1.5 degrees below normal for this time of the year. The maximum temperature of 21 degrees recorded in the city on Tuesday is also 6 degrees below normal.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature in Bengaluru was 21.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was recorded as 18.4 degrees Celsius. Both these readings were below the normal level witnessed in the city during this season. Misty conditions are likely to prevail in the city till December 6, according to the weather department.

Impact of Cyclone Ditwah

The sharp drops in temperature started in Bengaluru on November 27, when Cyclone Ditwah developed in the Bay of Bengal. Since that day, the maximum temperature in the city has fallen by 2 to 6 degrees Celsius.

The lowest recorded temperature in Bengaluru was 7.8 degrees Celsius in 1884. In more recent times, the city recorded a temperature of 12.8 degrees Celsius which was on December 24,2011.
