Tirupati: Heavy rains lashed Tirupati and Nellore on Sunday night into Monday morning due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwah.
In Nellore and Tirupati, district administrations declared holiday for private, government schools and colleges, Anganwadi schools due to the heavy rain alert on December 1, Monday.
Collector Mogili Venkateswarlu has said that the holiday was declared as a precaution and asked school and college administrations to strictly follow the orders.
Red alert has been issued for Nellore, Chittoor and Tirupati districts, while flash flood alert has been issued for Prakasam and Guntur districts.
Cyclone to weaken into a cyclonic storm:
Meanwhile, severe cyclonic storm Ditwa continues in the Southwest Bay of Bengal and it is moving parallel to the coasts of North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. There is a likelihood of the cyclone weakening to a cyclonic storm by the afternoon, AP State Disaster Management Authority said.
There is a possibility of heavy rains along with gusty winds at 40-60 kmph along South Coastal Andhra. Fishermen should not venture out into till Tuesday and people and farmers should remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, Prakhar Jain, MD of APSDMA said.

Surface winds are likely to be easterlies, southeasterlies with wind speed of 4-6 kmph. Light rain may occur in some parts of the city.
