Annamayya district: Two young software engineers died after binge drinking at a Sankranti party at Bandavaddipalli village, KV Palli mandal, Annamayya district, tv9 telugu reported.
Drinking contest between friends:
As per police authorities, six friends gathered in Bandavaddipalli village to celebrate Sankranti. During the party, a drinking contest ensued between Mani Kumar, 34, and Pushparaj, 26. They consumed at least 19 Budweiser tin beers between 3 pm and 7.30 pm on Saturday, January 17.
Health deteriorated rapidly due to dehydration:
Excessive consumption of alcohol lead to severe dehydration, causing their health to deteriorate rapidly. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment but Mani Kumar succumbed on the way to the hospital while Pushparaj died later during treatment.
Along with them, four other young men—Avalakunta Shravan Kumar, Pasupuleti Shivamani, Avalakunta Venugopal, and Kotakonda Abhishek, who also were present at the party, consumed less beer and therefore were not affected.
Rayachoti DSP Krishna Mohan confirmed that postmortem reports clearly indicate binge drinking as cause of death. He stated that there is no suspicion of foul play and excess drinking is what lead to their deaths.
In the wake of this incident, police had to caution the public against excessive alcohol consumption, especially during festivals or celebrations.
