New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly killing his live-in partner and leaving her body inside a locked car in Dwarka’s Chhawla area.

Police received a call on the morning of 26 November about a woman lying motionless inside a car parked in Dinpur Extension. A team reached the spot and found the vehicle locked from the outside, with the woman dead on the back seat.

The deceased had been living with 35-year-old Virendra Singh, a resident of the same locality. Neighbours told police that the couple had been arguing since Monday night. When officers arrived, Virendra was also present near the car.

Drunken murder attempt

The woman had visible injuries and scratch marks on her face. Crime and FSL teams examined the spot. During questioning, Virendra confessed that he strangled her after a fight over alcohol. Police said he tried to dispose of the body but was too drunk to drive the car beyond 100 metres. He returned home, left the body inside the vehicle, went upstairs, continued drinking and eventually fell asleep.

Around 9 am the next day, a neighbour, who thought the two were married, noticed the body in the car and called the police.

Money dispute angle

Further probe revealed that the couple had recently sold a house in Rajnagar and Virendra had bought a flat in Dinpur in his own name. The remaining Rs 21 lakh, which often triggered arguments, was recovered in cash from Virendra’s house.

A murder case has been registered at Chhawla police station and an investigation is underway.
