New Delhi: Two men have been arrested for robbing a woman and chopping off her fingers with a machete in Bengaluru. The incident is said to from September 13 and a video of the same has gone viral on social media.
The horrific video shows the accused attacking two women returning home after a local festival, according to multiple reports.
According to police, when the women identified as Usha and Varalakshmi were returning home after attending a Ganesh festival orchestra. The accused, identified as Praveen and Yogananda, approached the women on a motorbike and attempted to snatch their gold chains.
Police said Usha handed over her chain out of fear, but when Varalakshmi resisted, Yogananda attacked her with a machete, severing two of her fingers. The duo then fled the spot with 55 gram of gold jewellery.
After weeks of investigation, a special police team traced and arrested the accused. Officers recovered 74 gram of stolen gold jewellery and the weapon used in the crime.
According to officials, one of the accused, Yogananda, has a previous criminal record, including involvement in a murder case. After the attack, he fled to Puducherry, Mumbai, and Goa, before returning to his hometown Marasinganahalli in Karnataka, where he was eventually caught.
