The 2 am ordeal

According to the police, on January 12, the woman and her uncle got off a bus at Shree Ram Sharma Metro Station on Delhi Metro’s Green Line around 2 am. Her cousin arrived shortly afterward to pick them up. The five accused allegedly began following the trio, The Times of India reported.

After some time, the men forcefully separated the woman from her relatives and took her to a deserted dhaba on the Delhi–Rohtak Road, where they allegedly gang-raped her. The family later approached the police and registered a complaint at the Bahadurgarh City Police Station.

Initially, the woman filed a robbery complaint and did not mention the sexual assault. However, CCTV footage from the dhaba captured the incident. Following this, the woman, who is from Uttar Pradesh, gave a detailed account of the assault, after which a case was registered.

Investigations underway

During the investigation, police found that the accused had purchased liquor from a nearby shop, paying Rs 100 in cash and the remaining amount via UPI. The digital payment trail helped police identify the suspects.

The Bahadurgarh police arrested four of the accused within eight hours of the complaint, while efforts are underway to trace the fifth suspect. Jhajjar Police Commissioner Rajshree Singh said strict action would be taken against the accused and assured that no one involved would be spared.
