New Delhi: People in Maharashtra, if you are looking to commute via Ghodbunder Road this weekend, then gear up to face major diversions.
Thane Traffic Police have announced that from December 12 to 14, maintenance and resurfacing work of the Public Works Department and Thane Municipal Corporation will take place on Ghodbunder Road, affecting many important stretches. There will be planned diversions on the Thane-Ghodbunder Highway 84, specifically between Gaimukh Nirakendra, Kajupada, and Fountain Hotel, where they are conducting DBM and mastic repairs.
Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has ordered the quick completion of all ongoing works at Thane's Ghodbunder Road. He added that the projects which are in their final stages have to be finished by December 15. Work on the road has to be completed by January 15 so that people do not face any hazard due to traffic congestion. The Regional Transport Office has been instructed to assign five squads to help the traffic police.
Fire brigades, ambulances, green corridor vehicles, oxygen gas transporters, police vehicles, and other essential service vehicles would not be affected by the diversions. According to a report by Mid-Day, DCP Traffic Pankaj Shirsath has said that PWD and TMC are repairing the damaged road section between the new and old Octroi Naka up to the Nira Centre. All six-wheel and ten-wheel goods vehicles coming from the Thane side from December 12 to 14 will be diverted to alternate routes so that traffic movement remains smooth.
While the entry of heavy vehicles may be restricted, light vehicles may slow down in the controlled traffic flow through the work zones. People should chalk out their routes in advance and take every precaution to avoid congestion.
