Mumbai: A day after results were announced for civic polls in Maharashtra, including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the resort politics seemed to have started once again in the state. If reports are to be believed, the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena, as moved its elected members in a five-start hotel in Mumbai to avoid poaching. The faction has emerged as kingmaker in the BMC polls.

What numbers say?

On the other side, the Shiv Sena (UBT), Maharashtra Navnirvan Sena (MNS) and NCP (SCP) fought together, winning 72 seats. Of these, Shiv Sena (UBT) won 65, MNS 8 and NCP (SCP) just 1 seat. The Congress won 24, AIMIM 8, while the Samajwadi Party won from 2 wards.

How Opposition can still takeover BMC?

Here lies a situation, where Opposition parties, if join together, will have 106 in total, which will make them just 8 short of majority mark. In case the Opposition can persuade eight winning members from the other side to join them, it will be tough for the BJP + to get hold of the BMC.
