Puducherry: Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the much-awaited QS Asian University Rankings 2026. The London-based global higher education analyst has ranked the University of Hong Kong as the best university in Asia. When it comes to India's contribution to the QS Asian University Rankings 2026, there is a 1,125 per cent increase in representation.
The Pondicherry Central University has also achieved a milestone in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026 by securing the 470th position. The university has shown remarkable growth across various parameters, such as the research performance, papers per faculty increased from 48.2 to 76.6 and citations per paper grew from 16.9 to 19.4. The sources also suggest that PU's international faculty ratio increased from 4.6 to 5.1, and the international student ratio doubled from 2 to 4.
"This marks a considerable improvement from the previous position in the 501-520 band in the 2025 rankings underscoring the University`s sustained progress in academic excellence, research output and international engagement, PTI quoted Deputy Registrar of the University, K Mahesh.
He said the varsity's overall score witnessed a substantial increase from 18.8 in 2025 to 30.7 in 2026, reflecting notable improvement across multiple performance indicators. In the Southern Asian region, the Pondicherry Central University advanced from rank 140 to 121.
A total of seven Indian universities are placed in the top 100 according to QS Asia Rankings 2026. IIT Delhi remains the best institution for the fifth time in a row.
