Coolie Box Office collection Day 1: Rajinikanth actioner beats Hrithik Roshans War 2

New Delhi: Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie was released in theatres on August 14, 2025 and had a bumper opening at the box office, thanks to the star power of the superstar. As Rajinikanth has double reasons to celebrate as he completed 50 years in the film industry and his latest release becomes biggest opening of his career.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie, has earned Rs 65 crore India net and has grossed Rs 151 crore at the worldwide box office. The film has also surpassed the total collection of another release, War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.

Rajinikanth’s latest release, Coolie, had an overall Tamil occupancy of 89.99 per cent on its opening day, with morning shows having an occupancy of 81.95 per cent, afternoon shows had an occupancy of 85.13 per cent, evening shows had an occupancy of 86.57 per cent, and night shows had an occupancy of 94.32 per cent, according to the industry tracker Sacnilk.

In Hindi, the occupancy for the movie was quiet low, despite a cameo by the actor Aamir Khan. The Hindi version of the film had a total occupancy of 35.66 per cent with morning shows having 25.34 per cent occupancy, afternoon shows had 31.50 per cent occupancy, evening shows had an occupancy of 30.63 per cent, and night shows had an occupancy of 55.18 per cent.

While the film turned out to be the biggest opener for Rajinikanth’s career, for director Lokesh Kanagaraj it wasn’t the case. While Coolie’s worldwide collection is estimated to be around Rs 130 crore, Leo starring Thalapathy Vijay minted Rs 148 crore gross globally on its opening day. Leo was also directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Apart from Rajinikanth, the film also stars Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir. Actor Aamir Khan makes a cameo in the film. The film is facing a tough competition from YRF’s produced War 2 and it will be interesting to watch how both the films flare during its first weekend.
