Vijay Deverakonda on Duologue With Barun Das
Actor Vijay Deverakonda reflected on the time when his father asked him to "not waste” his money. Opening up about the same, he said on Duologue With Barun Das, "So, money was hard to come by and my dad found me at home all this while. One day he came and told me ‘don’t waste my money’. It’s already hard to pay the rent, to pay the gas cylinder and electricity and, if you don’t want to go college, then why am I working so hard to pay that? He said don’t go, don’t waste my money if you are not going to make anything of it.”
His father also advised him to farm the land they own or find a part-time job to contribute toward household expenses. However, the 18-yearold Vijay felt "pissed and angry” with his father’s demand and thought that his "friends had much more” and he never asked much from his parents.
Vijay then decided to talk about his passion for acting and told his father, "I wanted to be an actor. You can’t afford it, so when you can afford it, then talk to me. When you can afford it, you can ask me what I want to do, and I will do that.” His father then took him to a theatre in Hyderabad where the instructor was "psychotically strict”.
He shared, "That place made me find my love for acting. At some point, it was about getting acknowledgement and some claps. At that point, it was also about having a new bunch of friends and at some point, getting female attention. And then it became about acting itself.”
He further added, "I learnt a lot by just sitting (with him). You might agree with your father or not, but the experience they have on you in terms of life, pitfalls and how the world works, in general. We are innocent and we feel like we know everything. I would sit with my dad and think he would talk to me and I would not like it because every day I had to sit for hours just listen to him talk. But I learned a lot from him. It is his perspective that I use to date.”
