Mumbai: Pakistani rapper Talha Anjum found himself in a controversy after waving the Indian flag on stage during his concert in Nepal. The video of the incident went viral on social media, and the 30-year-old artist faced massive backlash from Pakistani fans on social media.
The Indian flag was handed over to Talha by a fan. The rapper did not hesitate. He picked it up and waved it proudly. He even draped it around himself. The video went viral on social media. It sparked from social media users, especially from Pakistan. Considering the backlash, the rapper took to X to address the controversy.
"My heart has no place for hate. My art has no borders. If me raising an Indian flag sparks controversy, so be it. I’ll do it again… will never care about the media, the war-mongering governments and their propagandas. Urdu Rap is and will always be borderless," said the rapper on X. Many fans of the rapper supported him in the comments.
"I support you, Talha. A confident nation does not panic over symbolism; it stands firm on its values. Pakistani artists leading global conversations is not a threat, it’s an influence. Urdu rap is ours, and its reach beyond borders is Pakistan’s soft power, not disloyalty. Shahbash!" said one. Another person stated, "As an Indian, I deeply admire your courage to stand firm when times are tough, that's what true legends do. Yet, I’m saddened by the rising hatred from some Pakistanis." A third individual stated, "Chin up, Talha… you’re doing a great job. We need more people like you. Sick-minded people live on both sides of the border they’re just trash. Ignore these idiots."
Meanwhile, some continued to bash him. "Never saw you do it with Pakistani Flag. Move to India, we reject you," said one. Another added, "Raising another nation’s flag while carrying Pakistan’s name isn’t ‘peace’, it’s insensitivity. Promote unity, but don’t forget your own roots." A third individual commented, "Despite the fact that your Spotify and probably your YouTube channel as well are blocked in India?"
