Mumbai: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma made its theatre debut on Tuesday. The film, released amid the Diwali festivities, garnered mixed reviews online. However, the movie's box office collection is positive. Reports state that Thamma has managed to earn over Rs 14 crore on day 1, making it Ayushman's biggest opening film.

Thamma is the fifth instalment in Maddock's horror-comedy universe. Stree, the first movie in the universe, was released in 2018 and earned Rs 6.82 crore on day one. The second movie, Stree 2, earned Rs 54.35 crore in India. With a tall collection on the opening day, all eyes are waiting to see if Thamma will break that record.

Meanwhile, initial reports predicted the film to make around Rs 18-20 crore on the first day, considering there are no major releases for Diwali.

Thamma tells the story of how Alok, a Delhi-based journalist, played by Ayushmann, enters a unique world of vampires after meeting mysterious Tadaka, played by Rashmika Mandanna.

Previously, the film was compared to Lokah.  Producer Dinesh Vijan claimed that the Bollywood movie was different, as it is rooted in mythology.

Social media review of Thamma

Many took to social media to post their reviews of the movie. "Nowhere close to Stree2 especially the climax but movie was a build up movie setting up stage for Bhediya 2 and further. Ayushmann and Rashmika have done well. Nawaz & Paresh were ok. Comedy is a hit and miss," said one user. Another person stated, "Thamma is an engaging mix of emotion, drama, and unpredictability. The first half focuses on building the story a bit slow at times, but it sets the stage well. The second half, however, really picks up and delivers an impressive payoff."
