New Delhi: Actor Ranbir Kapoor is all set to portray Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s directorial Ramayana. The first look of the film created a massive hype among cinegoers. But do you know, the Rockstar actor had to let go an ambitious project, Kishore Kumar’s biopic, to give his nod to Ramayana? Yes, you read it right!

Ranbir had to choose between two projects, Ramayana and Kishore Kumar’s biopic and it was a tough decision for him to make. If you are wondering why he couldn’t do both the movies, then let us tell you it’s because of the clashing schedules.

Director Anurag Basu, who is directing Kishore Kumar’s biopic, which has been in development for over a decade, revealed in a recent interview with BBC, "Ranbir had a tough choice in life — Kishore Kumar or Ramayana. It was very difficult for him. In the end, he chose Ramayana, and I think it was the right decision.”

He added, "We keep trying to work together, but it’s just not happening.”

According to reports, Aamir Khan is now being considered for the titular role of Kishore Kumar in the biopic. However, Anurag Basu hasn’t confirmed anything yet. Earlier, he told Mid-Day, "Everything is finalised and the contract is signed, I don’t think I should speak on it. This project has seen many ups and downs over the years. So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it happens this time and I go on set with the story, which I’ve been trying to tell for the last decade. I won’t jinx it by speaking about it."

Meanwhile, Ranbir and Anurag have worked together in two movies in the past, Barfi and Jagga Jasoos.

His last directorial, Metro…In Dino received positive response and minted decent numbers at the box office. His next directorial is Aashiqui 3, starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela.

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor has Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1, scheduled to release in Diwali 2026 and Ramayana: Part 2, slated to release in Diwali 2027. He also has Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love And War, alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. He will also be seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial, Animal Park.
