New Delhi: The Delhi Assembly on Monday witnessed chaos after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, Jarnail Singh, Sanjeev Jha, Kuldeep Kumar, and Som Dutt, were suspended from the proceedings following a disruption. The disruption occurred during Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s address to the House.
According to the Speaker, the MLAs displayed contempt of the House by creating a ruckus during the Lieutenant Governor’s address, prompting intervention by the Assembly marshals. The legislators were subsequently escorted out of the House as proceedings were disrupted.
Following the incident, BJP leader Pravesh Verma moved a proposal seeking the suspension of the four AAP MLAs. While the initial announcement stated that the members were suspended for three days, a proposal was later put forward recommending their suspension for four days.
The Speaker said the conduct of the MLAs during the address amounted to disrespect towards the constitutional office of the Lieutenant Governor and violated the decorum of the House.
Despite the disruption, Assembly officials confirmed that House proceedings will resume on Tuesday at 11 am. The development has further intensified political tensions between the ruling AAP and the opposition BJP inside the Delhi Assembly, with the issue of legislative decorum once again coming into sharp focus.
