A teenage girl allegedly killed her neighbour with a sharp weapon inside her house in Murwal village of Banda district on Thursday, police said. The 18-year-old was taken into custody after the body of 50-year-old Sukharaj was recovered from her house. Police said the attack was reportedly linked to family-related issues, though the exact motive is still being investigated.
Seven people were booked for allegedly running a milk adulteration racket in Mumbai, police said on Thursday. According to Mumbai Police, the accused misused packets of reputed milk brands by removing some milk, adding water and resealing them unhygienically before selling. The racket was busted during a raid by the FDA following a tip-off. The accused were booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday flagged off 100 new buses of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation, saying it would strengthen public transport and tourism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone of the 32-km Kaziranga Elevated Corridor on January 17 or 18, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. Built at a cost of Rs 6,957 crore, the project aims to reduce human-wildlife conflict around Kaziranga National Park. Police on Thursday arrested a woman for allegedly stealing Rs 20,200 from another woman at a district hospital in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam, officials said. According to Kulgam Police, the theft occurred while the complainant was attending to a patient. The accused, identified as Roomi Jan, confessed during questioning and the stolen cash was recovered.

Vodafone Idea on Wednesday issued a clarification following reports that the Union Cabinet approved a five-year moratorium on its AGR dues, pegged at ₹87,695 crore. The Delhi Police have recovered 515 lost and missing mobile phones since April using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, an official said on Wednesday. DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla said 399 devices have been returned to owners so far. Police tracked phones through technical surveillance, including in neighbouring states, and urged citizens to report losses promptly and beware of frauds.
The Uttar Pradesh Police killed 48 alleged criminals in encounters in 2025, the highest annual figure in eight years, official data showed. An elderly woman died after a major fire broke out in a residential building in Shaheen Bagh early Wednesday, police said. A 25-year-old woman in Faridabad was allegedly gangraped by two men in a moving van for hours and was thrown out of the vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday, two days before the New Year. The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, according to police.

A serious accident occurred in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday night when two internal transport trains collided inside a tunnel at the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti hydropower project run by THDC. The incident happened around 9:30 pm during a routine shift change. According to officials, a total of 109 workers were onboard the two trains at the time of the collision. The crash left at least 70 workers injured, triggering a major rescue and medical response.
A thick layer of fog enveloped Delhi and adjoining areas on Wednesday morning, leading to low visibility in several areas, affecting vehicular movement and disrupting flight operations at the airport.
