Punjab Police bust cross-border drug cartel; 3 held with 5 kg narcotics

The Punjab Police on Wednesday said it has dismantled a highly organised cross-border drug network with the arrest of three men linked to handlers in Pakistan and abroad. Officers seized over 4 kg of ICE (methamphetamine) and 1 kg of heroin. Investigations revealed WhatsApp-based coordination, drone-assisted drops and foreign handlers. The accused operated as couriers, retrieving and distributing drug consignments, police said.

Varanasi man dies by suicide, alleges harassment by wife and her lover

A 30-year-old man from Varanasi’s Lohata area died by suicide on Wednesday, leaving a video accusing his wife, her lover and his mother-in-law of harassment, police said. Rahul Mishra alleged his wife was in an extramarital relationship. After his mother filed a complaint, the three were booked for abetment of suicide, DCP Neetu Kadyan said.

Delhi govt, IOCL sign MoU to upgrade flyovers, health infra and water access

The Delhi government on Wednesday signed an MoU with IOCL to beautify and maintain five major flyovers and a key Aurobindo Marg stretch. The pact also includes MRI and CT machines for LNJP Hospital, a high-energy linear accelerator for Delhi State Cancer Institute, eight water ATMs, DTC depot beautification, three modern energy hubs and eco-branding for 250 electric buses. CM Rekha Gupta said the initiative supports pollution control and a "Viksit Delhi” vision.

Farmers clash with police in Hanumangarh; vehicles torched, MLA injured

A violent clash erupted in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh on Wednesday after farmers used tractors to demolish the boundary wall of an under-construction ethanol plant. The crowd vandalised vehicles and set some ablaze, prompting police to fire tear gas and use lathis. Congress MLA Abhimanyu Poonia was injured and hospitalised. Internet services were suspended as forces were deployed. Congress leaders condemned the police action, accusing the state government of being "anti-farmer.”

Vande Bharat sleeper trains under trial; two rakes manufactured, says Vaishnaw

The sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train, designed for long overnight journeys, is undergoing trials with two rakes already built, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Lok Sabha. He said the new variant features KAVACH, a 180 kmph design speed, improved fire safety, UV-C disinfection, CCTV monitoring and Divyangjan-friendly lavatories. MPs also sought updates on post-COVID train operations, with Vaishnaw noting services now exceed pre-pandemic levels.

Five killed as SUV rams parked car on Purvanchal Expressway in Barabanki

Five people, including a couple and their children, were killed when an SUV hit a stationary hatchback on the Purvanchal Expressway in Barabanki’s Haidergarh area on Wednesday, police said. Both vehicles caught fire after the crash. Four people, the hatchback’s lone survivor and three SUV occupants, were injured and rushed to a local health centre, with two in serious condition.

Delhi court denies interim relief to Luthra brothers in Goa nightclub fire case

A Delhi court on Wednesday refused interim protection to Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, linked to Goa’s Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire that killed 25 people, and posted their transit anticipatory bail pleas for Thursday. The Goa Police told the court the brothers fled after the incident, leading to NBWs and an Interpol Blue Corner Notice. In a parallel hearing, another Delhi court granted Goa Police a 36-hour transit remand of co-owner Ajay Gupta.

Bombay HC questions police over omission of Parth Pawar in Pune land scam FIR

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday questioned why Parth Pawar, son of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, was not named in the FIR over a Rs 300-crore land deal involving government-owned "Mahar watan” land in Pune. Hearing accused Sheetal Tejwani’s pre-arrest bail plea, Justice Madhav Jamdar asked whether police were protecting him despite his majority stake in the firm that bought the plot. Tejwani later withdrew her petition after the bench indicated it wouldn’t hear it.

Shah said the Election Commission has already clarified the matter and confirmed that neither the house nor the voters mentioned in the claim were fake.

According to him, some political parties are opposing it only because it affects their political interests. Shah added that he "sympathises” with such parties because the public does not vote for them and now even the "few infiltrators who supported them will be removed from the rolls.”

Delhi govt, IOCL sign MoU to beautify city spaces under flyovers

Maharashtra reports 30 lakh dog-bite cases in six years; 30 rabies deaths

Maharashtra has recorded over 30 lakh dog-bite cases in six years, an average of 1,369 incidents daily, while 30 people died of rabies between 2021 and 2023, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde told the Assembly. He said civic and rural bodies have been asked to intensify animal birth control and anti-rabies vaccination drives under the 2023 rules and Supreme Court directions.

Delhi Police recover 625 stolen and missing phones worth Rs 1 crore

The Delhi Police in Shahdara have traced and recovered 625 mobile phones worth nearly Rs 1 crore, using IMEI analysis, call records and CEIR data. The phones, lost, stolen, snatched or linked to theft and robbery cases, were found across Delhi, UP, Bihar, Punjab, MP and Uttarakhand. GTB Enclave and Seemapuri teams made the highest recoveries. Forty-five phones were handed over on December 8.

Two booked for 'derogatory' remarks on Prophet Muhammad
