CJI launches skill centres, polytechnic courses in Haryana jails; unveils anti-drug drive

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday inaugurated skill development centres, ITI-level vocational courses and polytechnic diploma programmes across Haryana jails under the project ‘Empowering Lives Behind Bars’. Speaking at Bhondsi prison in Gurugram, he stressed planned reintegration and psychological rehabilitation for inmates. The CJI also launched a month-long anti-drug awareness campaign across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Odisha unveils two new schemes to boost silk and weaving sectors, worth Rs 764 crore

The Odisha government on Saturday announced two major schemes to strengthen rural industries — the Rs 274-crore Chief Minister Silk Development Scheme and the Rs 490-crore Chief Minister Weaving Industry Development Scheme. Approved by the state Cabinet led by CM Mohan Charan Majhi, the initiatives aim to modernise sericulture, promote ethical ‘Ahimsa’ silk, support textile units and expand employment. The Cabinet also cleared proposals on fisheries cadre restructuring and the Odisha Pharma & Medical Device Policy 2025.

Nobel laureates, global CEOs to headline Telangana Rising Global Summit on Dec 8–9

Nobel laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Kailash Satyarthi, along with Trump Media & Technology Group director Eric Swider and Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, will speak at the inaugural Telangana Rising Global Summit on December 8–9. More than 2,500 delegates from 42 countries are set to join the event, which features 27 sector-specific sessions on technology, sustainability, healthcare and economic growth. Kerala CM says PWD not responsible for NH works after Kollam flyover collapse

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said the state PWD has no role in national highway construction, asserting that the NHAI alone is responsible. He was responding to questions after an under-construction flyover on NH-66 in Kollam collapsed, damaging a service road and trapping several vehicles, including a school bus. Vijayan said any lapses lay within NHAI’s systems, while the Opposition accused both state and Centre of negligence and corruption.

Hyderabad Police probe morphed video of Owaisi after AIMIM complaint

Hyderabad cyber crime police have registered a case after an AIMIM functionary complained about a fabricated video of party chief Asaduddin Owaisi circulating on social media. The morphed clip shows Owaisi standing before a Hanuman idol and reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, police said. The complaint was filed on December 5, and an investigation is underway to trace those responsible for creating and sharing the doctored video.

Assam Police announce traffic curbs, parking plan for Post Malone’s Guwahati debut concert

Assam Police on Saturday issued special traffic and logistical guidelines ahead of American artist Post Malone’s debut concert in Guwahati on Monday. Three men get life term for rape and murder of woman in Kaushambi

A Kaushambi district court has sentenced three men—Mustaq Ali alias Gunga, Bhola and Deepak, to life imprisonment for the 2022 rape and murder of a married woman. Additional District Government Advocate Prem Prakash said the victim was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon while sleeping at her home in West Shirira on March 26, 2022. Man kidnaps toddler in Delhi to force mother into marriage, arrested in Moradabad

Delhi Police arrested a 36-year-old vagabond, Wasim, for allegedly kidnapping a two-and-a-half-year-old boy in Jamuna Bazar to pressure the child’s mother into marrying him. The woman, a street vendor, had been refusing his advances for a year. With no phone for tracking, police traced him through human intelligence to Moradabad, where the child was rescued. Wasim admitted he abducted the boy after an argument on December 2.

CRPF sets up new camp in Abujhmad’s Pallewaya to push security and development

A CRPF camp has been established in remote Pallewaya village of Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad region to fill the long-standing security vacuum and enable development works. Set up jointly by Dantewada police and CRPF’s 165th battalion, the camp will act as a forward operating base under the state’s "Niyad Nella Nar” initiative. Special TGSRTC buses deployed from Hyderabad airport to aid passengers hit by IndiGo cancellations

To ease passenger troubles caused by widespread IndiGo cancellations, GHIAL and TGSRTC have teamed up to assist affected travellers. As a temporary measure, special TGSRTC buses were arranged from Hyderabad’s RGIA. Two sleeper buses were scheduled from Arrival Ramp, Pillar 08 — to Chennai at 14:30 (Rs 2,110) and Bengaluru at 14:45 (Rs 1,670). The Bengaluru bus departed with few passengers, but the Chennai bus is still waiting. From 6 pm, more buses to Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam will run from Zone D, offering some relief to stranded passengers.

Central Railway running 14 special trains for Mumbai, more to be added if needed: CRPO

Central Railway is operating 14 special trains to manage high passenger demand, CPRO Swapnil Nila said on Saturday. The services include trains from Gorakhpur, Hyderabad, Howrah and Bilaspur to Mumbai. Notifications for these trains have been issued until December 12. Nila added that Indian Railways and Central Railway will introduce additional special trains if required to ensure smooth travel for commuters.

Ambedkar memorial to be fast-tracked; Fadnavis promises completion by Dec 2025

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the long-delayed Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial at Mumbai’s Indu Mill site will be completed by December 6 next year. Speaking at Chaityabhoomi on the 69th Mahaparinirvan Diwas, he said construction is underway. NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule questioned the delay, noting major state projects finish on time. The memorial will include a bronze-clad statue, auditorium, library and meditation centre.

On Dr. Ambedkar Overseas Scholarship, Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin says, "Only six students benefited between 2003 and 2021, whereas 385 students have availed the scholarship in the last five years. Students from Tamil Nadu are now pursuing education in reputed foreign universities including Oxford, with Rs 162 crore disbursed under this scheme alone...In the last four years, 9,659 students have received Rs 90.27 crore in scholarships. Final-year law students are being provided training assistance of Rs 10,000."
