Mohammad Azharuddin, the former Indian cricketer and Congress leader, has been inducted into the Telangana Cabinet as a minister. The induction is viewed as a strategic decision by the ruling Congress government. Chief Minister Revanth Reddys administration aims to bolster the party’s appeal among minority communities and enhance its prospects in the crucial Jubilee Hills contest, a seat known for its large Muslim voter base.
Earlier this year, Azharuddin was nominated to the Legislative Council as an MLC under the Governor’s quota, following the Supreme Courts decision to strike down previous nominations. His inclusion in the revised list by Chief Minister Reddy underscores the importance of this political manoeuvre.
