New Delhi: Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday, after suffering two bouts of unconsciousness last week. Dhankhar will undergo an MRI.
As per officials, the former vice president experienced two bouts of unconsciousness when he went to the washroom last Saturday. He was taken for a medical check-up on Monday, where doctors advised him to hospitalise.
“Today, he had gone to AIIMS for a checkup when the doctors insisted that he should get admitted for tests,” an official said while speaking to news agency PTI. It may be noted that Dhankhar has a history of blacking out on several occasions in recent years.
Dhankhar is currently under observation. The doctors will review his health condition tomorrow and will decide whether the former vice president is fit to be discharged from the hospital. There is no official confirmation from him or his family of his current health status.
Earlier too, the ex-vice president had lost consciousness while attending public programmes in the Rann of Kutch, Uttarakhand, Kerala and the national capital during his tenure as vice president. Last July, he has resigned as Vice President citing ill health. At the time, the Opposition had claimed that he was forced to resign. After his resignation, he was not seen much in public.
"To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution," he said in the letter to the President. He had assumed office in August 2022 and his tenure was to end in August 2027. His resignation had come on the first day of the Monsoon session of Parliament.
