New Delhi: In view of rising air pollution levels and its adverse impact on children’s health, the Gautam Budh Nagar district administration has ordered a temporary change in the mode of schooling across the district.
According to an order issued by the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) on Saturday, classes from pre-nursery to Class 5 will be conducted entirely in online mode from December 14 until further orders. Classes for students of Class 6 to Class 9 and Class 11 will follow a hybrid model, with schools permitted to conduct both online and physical classes wherever online teaching is feasible.
The directive applies to all schools affiliated with the Basic Education Council as well as institutions under various boards, including the Uttar Pradesh Board, CBSE, ICSE, Sanskrit Education Board and Madrasa Board. Coaching centres operating in the district have also been instructed to comply with the order.
The decision has been taken in line with the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) guidelines issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and following directions from the district magistrate. Authorities said the move aims to minimise students’ exposure to hazardous air conditions as pollution levels continue to remain high in the National Capital Region.
School principals and headmasters have been directed to strictly enforce the order. The district administration has also asked local newspapers to publish the advisory in public interest to ensure wider awareness among parents and students. The modified arrangements will remain in force until further instructions are issued by the authorities.
