Get out of jail card? Convicted rapist Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been out of prison on parole for 405 days in 8 years

Gurmeet Ram Rahim got a parole in August 2025, a 21-day furlough in April that year, and a parole for 30 days in January, just before the Delhi elections. On October 1, 2024, he got a parole of 20 days just before the Haryana assembly polls.

New Delhi: Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief and a convicted rapist, will come out of Rohtak's Sunaria jail on Monday for 40 days. In just over eight years, he has been out of prison for a total of staggering 405 days, according to a report by the Times of India.

The repeated parole of Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Despite serving a life sentence for murder and a jail term of 20 years for rape, Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been granted parole 15 times since he was first convicted in August 2017, something which has baffled everybody. In the latest parole, he would attend the birth anniversary of Shah Satnam Singh on January 25.

In August 2024, he got a furlough of 21 days, and a 21-day furlough from February 7, 2022, just ahead of the Punjab elections.

Out of jail frequently

Gurmeet Ram Rahim has come out of prison 14 times since 2017, and several times, he remained at the Dera's ashram in Uttar Pradesh's Bagpat district. Notably, in January 2019, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.

Soon after reaching Sirsa during earlier releases, Ram Rahim had issued video messages urging his followers to adhere to instructions issued by Dera officials. While he is not permitted to hold physical gatherings at the Dera, he is allowed to communicate with followers virtually.
