A 35-year-old woman in Madhya Pradesh, India, was brutally murdered after allegedly refusing to convert to Islam and marry her attacker, Sheikh Raees. The incident sparked outrage within the Hindu community, who claim police negligence.
New Delhi: All crimes should be considered harrowing, but there is an incident in Madhya Pradesh which is bound to send shivers down the spine of the readers.
There, a person has brutally murdered a 35-year-old woman after she allegedly refused to convert to Islam and marry the man who tortured her. The incident reportedly took place in Navara in the Nepanagar police station area.
The perpetrators, a 42-year-old person named Sheikh Raees, allegedly attacked the woman named Bhagyashree Namdev Dhanuk inside her home. He slit her throat and stabbed her multiple times, and she died on the spot. He was arrested by the police within hours.
He used to beat her, assault her
According to the allegations of the victim's sister, Subhadra Bai, "Raees used to grab her hair, beat her, harass her. He had been pressuring her for marriage and religious conversion for a long time. My sister refused, so he entered the house at night and slit her throat."
As per Additional Superintendent of Police SP Burhanpur Antar Singh Kanesh, the police have charged Raees under sections of murder and atrocity, and he is currently in custody.
The Hindu community is outraged
The incident has angered the Hindu community of the area greatly. Many people have protested against the incident, and their representative, Amit Varude, called the murder a case of "love jihad." Also, he accused the police of negligence and said, "She had lodged a complaint just three days ago, but the accused was released. He must be hanged."
