'I'm there to handle it': Lalu Prasad to RJD leaders as family feud mars party after Bihar debacle

Patna: Amid political storm in Bihar over feud between Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and his sister Rohini Acharya, party chief Lalu Prasad has said that it was his family matter and that he would handle it. Speaking to party leaders on the ongoing bickering in his family, the RJD president said that the family feud will be resolved within the family and that he was there to deal with it.

Lalu made the remarks during a meeting with the newly elected RJD leaders in Patna on Monday. This was his first reaction to the family dispute since his daughter made a series of allegations. The meeting was held after the RJD faced a crushing defeat in the recently-concluded Bihar Assembly elections. The RJD managed to win only 25 of the 243 seats.

Rohini Acharya's emotional outburst

The family feud came to light on Saturday (a day after Bihar poll results) after Acharya alleged that she was "cursed at" for donating a "dirty kidney" to her father Lalu Prasad in exchange for money and a party ticket. Lalu's daughter said "she has been made an orphan", and advised all married women to refrain from saving "your God-like father if he has a son".

Rohini Acharya in a series of posts on X said that "may no household give birth to a girl with a fate like that of Rohini".

"Yesterday, I was cursed at and told that I am dirty, and that I got my father to have my dirty kidney transplanted into him, took crores of rupees, bought a ticket, and then got that dirty kidney put in," Acharya, who had unsuccessfully contested the Saran Lok Sabha seat in last year's Lok Sabha elections, said in an emotional outburst.

She also announced on Saturday that she was quitting the party and disowning her family. Acharya blamed her brother Tejashwi Yadav's close aides for the RJD's debacle in the recent Bihar polls.

Acharya also claimed that she was she was verbally abused and a slipper was raised to hit her.

Expelled RJD leader and Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav on Tuesday came out in support of his sister, Rohini Acharya, and said those who “insulted" his sister would “have to pay the price."

“We will not tolerate any insult to our sister under any circumstances. Those ‘Jai Chand’ traitors who have done this will have to face the consequences," Tej Pratap wrote on X.ac
