New Delhi: In Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, the police have arrested four men for allegedly writing 'I love Muhammad' on the walls of four temples. According to reports, they did so to falsely implicate their Muslim neighbours due to a dispute over property.
Aligarh SSP Neeraj Jadon identified the four alleged perpetrators as Akash Kumar, Jishant Kumar, Abhishek Sarswat, and Dilip Kumar. All of them are aged between 30 and 35 years, and there is a fifth accused named Rahul who is absconding.
On October 25, the five accused wrote the slogan on the walls of four temples. A member of a right-wing organisation filed a complaint against Muslim men. Police, including senior officers, reached the spot and erased the graffiti. They registered a case against Maulvi Mustaqeem, Suleman, Gul Mohammad, Sonu, Allabaksh, Hamid, Yusuf, and Hasan.
However, police noticed that the slogans were misspelled everywhere in the same way, something not seen on banners during protests in Bareilly in September. The investigators suspected mischief, and with the help of technical surveillance, the police managed to find the real culprits. They tried to frame some Muslims over personal disputes, and the police have registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the five accused.
